Perhaps you're an apprentice, a work-based learner or you're considering vocational qualifications - either way this is your chance to see what University can do for you.

But I don't know anything about University or Higher Education.
Not a problem. We aim to let you know about the different stepping stones that can take you from where you are now to becoming a student at University, as well as showing you the opportunities available to you when you gain new qualifications (and we don't just mean GCSEs and A-levels). We realise that your time is valuable, so our event is designed to be interactive, hands-on and most of all, enjoyable. You will get to experience interesting vocational subject sessions, interview experts about your job prospects and try to beat our current University students in games challenges.

When's it on?
Wednesday 18 July to Friday 20 July 2007.
For each day of the event we will concentrate on 2 vocational topics:
Wednesday 18th:
ICT and Hospitality & Catering
Thursday 19th:
Construction & the Built Environment and Society, Health and Development
Friday 20th:
Creative Arts & Media and Engineering
We want you to be able to pick and mix on your Learn2Earn Experience, so you will have the option to attend sessions from both of the topics running that day*, or you could just follow one area throughout the day. Depending on your choice, you could be looking at the mechanics of racing cars, exploring how the layers of computer games are put together or investigating gang behaviour in football hooliganism.

These topics are (or will be) parts of the new Specialised Diplomas, and for those who are still in school, they provide you with the opportunity to experience vocational subject areas. And for those of you already working within these topic areas, the Learn2Earn Experience will give you the chance to develop your skills and learn more about your options for the future.

Do I have to come for all of it?
No. If you're only interested in one vocational area then come for that day. Alternatively, if you would like to attend all three days then you can stay at the University and experience the student lifestyle. You will get your own room on campus, the chance to participate in evening activities and the opportunity to know our University students better (because they supervise your stay).

Will I have to pay?
Nope. All the places on the Learn2Earn Experience are absolutely free. We provide you with lunch if you come for the day (and all other meals if you stay overnight) and we may be able to help with the cost of your transport to Lancaster University.

How do I find out more or book a place?
If you're aged between 13 and 17 and would like to know more, or you want to book a place, then contact Beckie Knight on 01524 592067 or email b.knight@lancaster.ac.uk.

* subject to tutor agreement.

Learn&earn Website goes live

The Learn&earn website went live
